Exercise 1: Magazine Page Modification and Interpretation

Original

The elements of design found in my original source image are -
Form / Color / Texture and Space.
Some Principles of Design found in the image are -
Pattern / Emphasis and Variety.

The Form in the image is the people. The photo shows bright, vibrant colors. The textures I see are the baby's smooth peachy skin, and the males hairy forearms and hands. The page layout utilizes whitespace to emphasize the photo. The Design Principles I see are the polka dot pattern on the male's gown. There is variety in the photo due to the obvious age difference between the two people in the photo.

The image itself portrays a male holding a baby in a careful way. From the image, I assume the male is either the baby's father, or the doctor who helped bring him or her into the world. To me, This is a warm and tender moment caught on camera. This photo represents knew life. The male in the photo is wearing what appears to be a very brightly colored hospital gown. That leads me to believe the baby is a newborn. The baby's face of course looks like it has no idea whats going on.

Modified

My modified image portrays the opposite of a warm, safe, tender embrace between father and child.
One clean surgical slice going diagonal across the photo has severed the baby in half. I used chopped bits of the males shirt to portray an internal organ as the only thing keeping this baby whole. The father is now pulling each half of this child in different directions with each hand. I wanted to continue utilizing whitespace on my modified image.
